Minister Harada attended the last "Bountiful Sea Conference" of the Heisei era, held under the theme of "forests, rivers and seas, water's journey to a bright future". He also joined the ceremony to release juvenile grunt fish (Isaki Fish) at the seaside alongside HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko of Japan.

Official Visit by Ambassador Sujan R. Chinoy, India's Ambassador to Japan (October 26, 2018)

Ahead of signing of the "Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of Environment", Minister Harada held discussions with Ambassador Chinoy on environmental cooperation of India. Subsequently the memorandum was signed on October 29 upon India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Japan.

2nd World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF2018) in Yokohama (October 22-23, 2018)

Minister Harada and State Minister Akimoto attended the WCEF2018, co-hosted by MOE and SITRA, the Finnish Innovation Fund. During the forum, "Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the field of Environment" was signed by Minister Harada and Finland's Minister of the Environment Kimmo Tiilikainen.

State Minister Kiuchi's Official Visit to Germany (October 16-20, 2018)

With his vast diplomatic experience including ones at the Embassy of Japan in Germany and as the German Language Interpretation Official, State Minister Kiuchi held several high-level discussions to explain Japan's stance on various environmental issues and share the expectations on the package that needs to be delivered at the upcoming COP24 Poland in December and G20 Japan in June.

17th World Lake Conference (WLC), Lake Kasumigaura, Ibaraki Prefecture (October 15, 2018)

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Katsumata attended the WLC at the Tsukuba International Congress Center. Since 1984, WLC has contributed to promoting scientific approaches in the world lake basin management. The past conferences were held in various parts of the world including USA, Hungary, China, Italy, Argentina, Denmark, Kenya, India, Indonesia, and Japan.

10-Year Anniversary of the Revival of the Japanese Crested Ibis "Toki" on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture (October 14, 2018)

Minister Harada attended the the 10th Anniversary of the Reintroduction of Toki, with HIH Princess Mako of Akishino and Consul General SUN Dagang (孙大刚: Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Niigata) in attendance. Awards were granted to 7 organizations in recognition of important contributions to preserve the prosperous and biodiverse Sado Island for future generations.

Official Visit by H.E. Mr. Xie Zhenhua (解振华), Special Representative on Climate Change Affairs, China (October 11, 2018)

Minister Harada welcomed Mr. Xie and the Chinese delegation and exchanged opinions on COP24 and Climate Change. Last month, Mr. Xie co-chaired the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) along with Governor of California Jerry Brown, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Climate Action Michael Bloomberg, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa, and Mahindra Group Chair Anand Mahindra.

5th Annual Meeting of the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) in Tokyo (October 11, 2018)

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Katsumata participated in the 5th meeting of ICEF, with 1000 people from about 70 countries or regions. During the plenary sessions, the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions was reaffirmed and in-depth discussions took place on business-led technological innovation toward decarbonization and social innovation involving industry and consumers.

TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) Ministerial Meeting Side Event on ACCP (African Clean Cites Platform) in Tokyo (October 5, 2018)

Taking the opportunity of the TICAD Ministerial Meeting, MOE and JICA organized the ACCP Side Event. This TICAD meeting is to discuss African development for following up TICAD 6 in 2016 and preparing for TICAD 7 in 2019, inviting ministers and senior officials from African countries. State Minister Kiuchi called for further effort to improve waste management in African countries toward TICAD7.

Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention (MGISC) in New Delhi, India (October 1-2, 2018)

This 4-day event brought together Ministers and sanitation sector leaders from around the world, to provide an opportunity to share best practices. It culminated with the launch of Gandhi's 150th birthday celebrations, and marked the beginning of the final year of the Swachh Bharat Mission or Clean India Mission, which seeks to contribute to the global achievement of SDG 6.
