CDP's Climate A List Announcement in Tokyo - Japanese Firms Lead World in Environmental Performance and Transparency (January 20, 2020)

CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) is an international non-profit organization based in the UK working to reduce the carbon emissions of major corporations. CDP's annual A-list names the world's most pioneering companies leading on environmental transparency and performance. With 38 out of 179 companies in the top tier, Japan has overtaken the US to become the country with the most A-list companies.

10 Million Wooden Straw Project Kick-off Event (January 15, 2020)

In his speech, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yagi called for accelerated innovation to reduce plastic consumption. Participants also got the chance to make their own wooden straws from wood shavings generated by planing wood surfaces, which could be waste otherwise. This unique initiative is based on Japanese spirit of "Mottainai", the expression conveying a sense of regret concerning waste.

State Minister Ishihara's Official Visit to Nairobi, Kenya (UN Headquarters in Africa) (January 14-18, 2020)

State Minister Ishihara met with UN senior leaders in Africa to discuss a wide range of cooperation in the region, such as the Japan-led ACCP (The African Clean Cities Platform) initiative. He also visited the waste disposal site in Kiambu County and Toyota Kenya Academy. It offers advanced/professional training to develop skills of local youth to be better placed in accessing the labour market.

Minister Koizumi's 2020 New Year's Address (January 7, 2020)

Minister Koizumi delivered his New Year's speech to the Ministry's staff, which might also be of interest to an external audience. He stressed the importance of sharing lessons learned from past disasters, namely Minamata Mercury Pollution and Fukushima Nuclear Accident. Moreover, he highlighted the necessity to re-examine the the role MOE should play, that also results in improving working environment.
