20th Japan Water Prize & Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2018 (June 26, 2018)

The Japan Water Prize is to recognize and support a wide range of activities contributing to a healthy water environment. The group to build fishways on the Komaoi river, in Bihoro (Hokkaido), that works for the rebirth of the Komaoi river by handmade fishways to bring back lost biodiversity, was selected for the Environment Minister's Award.

The First Annual Meeting of the African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) in Rabat, Morocco (June 25, 2018)

Approximately 220 participants from central and local governments from 32 African countries, various public agencies, private enterprises and Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) shared information and knowledge regarding solid waste management, at the first annual meeting of the ACCP organized in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.

Official Visit by Professor Hidetoshi Nishimura, President of the Economic Research Institute of ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) (June 25, 2018)

20th Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting (TEMM 20) in Suzhou of Jiangsu Province (East China), PRC (June 23-24, 2018)

Minister Nakagawa attended TEMM20 (among China, Japan and Republic of Korea) to exchange views on enhancing cooperation in the environment field. Minister Nakagawa also called to take measures to prevent the international spread of fire ants.

Second Ministerial on Climate Action (MoCA), in Brussels, Belgium (June 20-21, 2018)

The second meeting of the MoCA, convened by the EU, Canada and China, focused on expected outcomes from the COP24 to the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement Work Programme (PAWP). The Chairs' Summary from the second MoCA highlighted that ministers "confirmed that the Paris Agreement is irreversible and is not to be renegotiated, and stressed the importance of multilateralism."

Official Visit by Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives (June 14, 2018)

Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2018 (SSFF & ASIA 2018) in Tokyo, Japan (June 4, 2018)

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Sasagawa attended the opening ceremony of the SSFF & ASIA 2018, and presented the Environment Minister's Award for the "Save the Earth! Competition" launched by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, in 2008. It gathers a wide variety of films that approach environmental issues and offer enlightening ideas about protecting the environment.
