International ONSEN Summit in Beppu City, Oita (May 26, 2018)

Introduction of "Tokyo 2020 Medal Project" to Minister Surasak of Thailand (May 18, 2018)

State Minister Ito visited the Tokyo Central Post Office where he introduced the Medal Project to General Surasak Karnjanarat, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand. Minister Surasak also participated in the project by donating his disused mobile phone into the collection box.

Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the field of Environment between the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (May 17, 2018)

Minister Nakagawa and General Surasak Karnjanarat, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand signed a MoC on Environment fields. Subsequently, they were joined by State Minister Ito and State Minister Tokashiki for the first Japan-Thailand Environmental Policy Dialogue, where discussions took place on course of action for concrete cooperation based on the memorandum.

Official Visit by Minister Ostap Semerak of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ukraine (May 14, 2018)

Minister Nakagawa and Minister Semerak had a frank exchange of views about climate change, energy, protection and preservation of natural environment. Minister Semerak also attended "International Symposium on the Environment after Fukushima and Chernobyl Accidents" held by the Institute of Environmental Radioactivity, Fukushima University, and visited to the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST (FREA).

State Minister Ito's Official Visit to the People's Republic of China (May 12-14, 2018)

State Minister Ito met with several government officials including Vice Minister ZHAO Yingmin (趙英民), Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and Deputy Administrator PENG Youdong (彭有冬), National Forestry and Grassland Administration, to engage in frank exchanges of views on enhanced environmental cooperation between Japan and PRC.

State Minister Ito attended several high-level meetings and shared the determination to further enhance mutual cooperation in environmental and climate change issues. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takebe's Official Visit to Vietnam (May 2-5, 2018)

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takebe visited the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and the Vietnam-Japan University to held meetings with high level officials. He also inspected the Vietnam's first waste incineration power generation plant, built and in operation by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) and the Japanese company.

Minamata Disease Victims Memorial Service in Minamata, Kumamoto (May 1, 2018)

Minister Nakagawa attended and gave prayers at the memorial ceremony for Minamata disease victims. Minamata disease is a neurological disorder caused by the release of methylmercury in the industrial wastewater from the Chisso Corporation's chemical factory, which continued from 1932 to 1968.
