Opening Symposium of the International Year of the Reef 2018 (IYOR 2018) in Tokyo (January 28, 2018)

Following the kickoff of 2018 International Year of the Reef on January 17, with appeal by COP23 President, Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama of Fiji, MOE Japan organized the opening symposium. It is to strengthen collective efforts in Japan for the sustainable coral reef management.

State Minister Ito's Visit to Akita Prefecture ("Kurumaza Furusato Talk" & Kosaka Smelter) (January 27, 2018)

State Minister Ito organized "Kurumaza Furusato Talk" in Odate City, to talk about the Tokyo 2020 Medal Project. It is a Japanese-style small local meeting hosted by the government, which facilitates direct communication between cabinet members and citizens. He also went on an inspection tour of Kosaka Smelter, while the various smelting works for the medal project were in progress.

Danone's Circular Economy of Packaging ~100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging~ (January 18, 2018)

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Sasagawa visited French food giant Danone's yogurt factory in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, to inspect its waste-recycling capabilities. He also met with the team of Danone Japan, to discuss about its effort toward sustainable manufacturing and initiative to develop large-scale recycling infrastructure and technologies.

Japan - Myanmar Environment Week in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar (January 15-17, 2018)

State Minister Ito visited Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar to attend the Japan - Myanmar Environment Week. Together with Union Minister U Ohn Winn, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC), they released a joint statement on environmental cooperation, particularly in the fields of Waste Management and Environmental Impact Assessment.

Inspection Visit at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) (January 15, 2018)

Minister Nakagawa visited the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) in Tsukuba, Ibaraki and toured several research facilities for Climate Change, Disaster Prevention・Waste Management, and Countermeasures against invasive red imported fire ants.
