Minister Harada's Official Visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (August 27-30, 2019)

Minister Harada paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia, the next presidency of G20, to reaffirm Japan's support, especially for the Environment Ministers Meeting. During the visit, Minister Harad met with his counterpart, Minister Al-Fadley, held a bilateral meeting, and visited the waste disposal site to understand the current status of waste management in Saudi Arabia.

Inspection Visit to the Chubu Sangaku National Park (August 27-28, 2019)

State Minister Kiuchi visited the Chubu Sangaku National Park for a post-implementation review of "Project to Fully Enjoy National Parks." The Park roughly encompasses the Northern Japan Alps, a volcanic mountain range that stretches across Toyama, Nagano and Gifu Prefectures, and includes several 3000 meter high peaks and breathtaking hiking courses.

The Second General Meeting of the African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) (August 26-27, 2019)

ACCP was held in Yokohama, concurrently with the TICAD 7. "Yokohama Action Guidance for the ACCP" was adopted which stipulates the future direction and concrete activities such as further expanding the network by participation of development partners and other stakeholders, strengthening the ACCP secretariat function in Africa with UN-Habitat taking the core role, providing opportunities for capacity building and co-creation of knowledge.

Official Visit by Chinese Ambassador Kong Xuanyou (孔鉉佑) (August 21, 2019)

Minister Harada welcomed China's new ambassador to Japan, and they shared their strong determination to cooperate on environmental issues. Ambassador Kong has spent two thirds of his 34-year career as a diplomat working on Japan-related issues, spending 10 of those years at the Chinese Consulate-General and Embassy in Osaka and Tokyo.

National Convention Yamanashi for the fourth "Day of Mountain" National Holiday (August 11, 2019)

First celebrated in 2016, Mountain Day is the most recent national holiday in Japan. The legislation states that the day is designed to share "opportunities to get familiar with mountains and appreciate blessings from mountains."

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kanke's Official Visit to Mongolia (August 7-9, 2019)

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kanke met with Mr. Batbayar Tserendorj, Vice Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mongolia, and several government officials to engage in frank exchanges of views on enhanced environmental cooperation to reduce air pollution and mitigate climate change. He also visited a solar photovoltaic plant operated by a Japanese company.

Official Visit to the Sado Japanese Crested Ibis Conservation Center in Sado, Niigata Prefecture (August 7-8, 2019)

Parliamentary Vice-Minister Katsumata visited the Toki Forest Park on Sado Island, to inspect the Sado Japanese Crested Ibis Conservation Center and the Sado Reintroduction Center. He also discussed the current status of its captive breeding and reintroduction. (Toki = Japanese Crested Ibis)
