Kawakami Onsen

Kawakami Onsen

Built on the very outskirts of the Okutsuchiyu Onsen resort, this inn has a 400-year history. The highlight of the inn is the Tachiyu-bannin-buro, a 30-ton bath that is 10 m in length, 4 m in width, and 1.2 m at its deepest. Floats are prepared for children. The facility also houses various refinements such as the unusual Anayu-hantengankutsu-buro, a semi-cave semi-open-air bath hand-carved by master craftsmen; the Asunaro-buro made of Aomori hiba; and Hana-yu, a simple hot spring family bath in which hot-spring mineral deposits can be seen. Take your ease in Kawakami Onsen-style guest rooms, where the futons are laid out in advance.

MESSAGE

Constructed in the Edo period, this inn has the longest history in the Tsuchiyu Onsen resort. Having been featured in Japan’s Hidden Hot Springs a guidebook introducing secluded hot springs around Japan, the open-air bath is popular with visitors from overseas. The indoor Tachiyu-bannin-buro and the open-air Anayu-hantengankutsu-buro are designated as male and female on alternate days. Please check the website for information on the baths.
