Media Coverage
Shinjuku Gyoen is a “national garden” that has a long and distinguished history and is operated for public use. For this purpose, commercial photography is not allowed in the garden.
(Examples of commercial photography)
• Taking photos or videos of the garden as a location for promotional purposes, such as for production of promotional materials
• Photography for the purpose of creating brochures, websites, images, etc., for company information, etc.
• Filming for profit (including live streaming, filming for the purpose of posting on YouTube and other video sites, and similar filming)
• Photographing mainly models for the purpose of selling photos, etc.
However, photography that falls under any of the following items is permitted, subject to strict adherence to the compliance requirements.
i) The main purpose is to introduce information about Shinjuku Gyoen, such as its nature, history, facilities, and activities, to the general public; or
ii) Photography that is recognized as having academic, cultural, or social significance and for which Shinjuku Gyoen is considered as the only place.
If you wish to photograph, film or cover the garden, please follow the procedures (1) and (2) below.
Even in a case that falls under i) or ii) above and a public organization undertakes a photo or film shoot for a non-commercial purpose, please cooperate in following the procedures (1) and (2) below for proper garden management.

(2) How to apply
Please submit a completed application form and a proposal (indicating the purpose of coverage, the publication medium, and details of Shinjuku Gyoen to be introduced) by e-mail at least five days (excluding holidays) prior to the desired date of coverage.
*Photography is available on days when Shinjuku Gyoen is open, from 9:00 to 17:00 (16:00 from Oct. 1 to Mar. 14).
