・Bringing and drinking alcohol in the garden are strictly prohibited.

Closed Days

  • Mondays (If Monday is a public holiday, then closed the following day. Closed the day(weekday) after in case of consecutive holidays.)
  • December 29 to January 3
  • Special Open Days: The garden is open throughout the following periods;
    March 25 to April 24, and November 1 to November 15

Admission Fee

  • Adults \500 (Group discount \400)
  • Seniors (65 and over) \250 ※Valid ID required. Please purchase a ticket at a staffed counter.
  • Students \250 ※Valid Student ID required. Please purchase a ticket at a staffed counter.
  • Children (junior high school students /15 and under) FREE

※Group discount applies to a party of 30 persons or more. No reservations are necessary.

Visitors can enter the garden purchasing the entrance tickets at the ticket offices on the day, without online advance booking.

※Assistance dogs are also allowed to enter with visitors such as guide-dogs, service dogs and hearing assistance dogs.

《Application for free admission for groups with disability certificates》


Groups of persons with disabilities who have physical disability certificates, intellectual disability certificates, or mental disability certificates, and one assistant per person, are entitled to free admission when a person in charge of a welfare institution, group home, or other institutions sends or submits the application form (currently Japanese form only) in advance.

Please send the application by one week in advance of your visit by e-mail to the address below or submit the form to the Shinjuku Gyoen Management Office or the Information Center. If the application is approved, a "free entry approval notification" will be sent to the applicant. Present the approval notification sent by e-mail at the ticket counter when the group visits the garden so that it is not necessary for each person to show their disability certificate.

 

Please note that free admission will be applied only if the certificates are issued in Japan.

Please make sure to write the e-mail address of a person in charge of the institution on the application for the reply.

  • Parking Time 6:30am-9:00pm (Last entry 9:00pm. You can leave the parking anytime, 24hours a day.) Open all year round.
  • Car (200 spaces)
  • [Parking Fee for garden visitors] \600 for the first 2 hours, and \200 per additional 30 minutes. A maximum fee is \2,400 per day (until midnight of the day)
  • ※For garden visitors, parking discount is applied by showing the entrance tickets (including annual passport) and parking tickets at Okido entrance gate or paying parking fee scanning QR code of the entrance tickets at self-checkout machines of the parking area.
  • [Parking Fee for other users] \300 per 20 minutes. A maximum fee is \2,700 per day (until midnight of the day)
  • Coach (5 spaces) \2,200 for 1 hour, then \550 half-hourly. A maximum fee is \5,500 per night (during the hours of 8:00pm to 8:00am of the next day) ※No discount fee for a coach.
  • ※ For drivers or the passengers in the vehicles who have disability certificates, parking fee is free by showing the parking tickets and the following certificates issued in Japan: Physical disability certificate, Intellectual disability certificate or Mental disability certificate at Okido Gate when leaving the garden.

    ※Parking Discount for Electric Vehicle (EV) and Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) drivers visiting Shinjuku Gyoen

    To promote the use of electric vehicles (EV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCV) for decarbonization in the transport sector, two hours of free parking is available (from April 1, 2021) for electric vehicle and fuel cell vehicle drivers who visit Shinjuku Gyoen by showing the entrance ticket and parking ticket at Okido Gate when leaving, and then showing the parking ticket and the vehicle inspection certificate at the parking management office.

    *Regarding the vehicle inspection certificate, we need to confirm whether the type of fuel of your EV or FCV vehicle is electricity or compressed hydrogen.

Bicycle Parking

  • Located in front of each entrance. (Free of charge. Bicycle parking is only available during opening hours of the garden. )

Other Information

  • Coin lockers are located next to each ticket office (Inside of Shinjuku Gate, Okido Gate and Sendagaya Gate). (Price : Small/Medium \300 Large \500)
  • Wheelchairs are available at each entrance and Service Center. (No reservations necessary. Free of charge.)

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is managed for the enjoyment of the public, balancing the interests of our visitors, wildlife, the historic environment and conservation.

To ensure an enjoyable time for all visitors, we ask you to REFRAIN FROM THE FOLLOWINGS:

1. Bringing items listed below:
  • Alcohol
  • Animals (except guide dogs, hearing dogs, and service dogs)
  • Bicycles, striders, unicycles, or trolleys
  • Drones
  • Butterfly nets or insect cages
  • Cut flowers
  • Other items that the administrator considers inappropriate to bring in the garden
2. Any sports and activities which may disturb other visitors, such as:
  • Playing catch, soccer and other activities using balls
  • Running or jogging in groups
  • Playing badminton
  • Roller-skating, rollerblading, kick-boarding, or skateboarding
  • Playing with radio-controlled helicopters, radio-controlled cars, or similar products
  • Playing frisbee or boomerang
  • Rope-jumping or kite-flying
  • Other activities that the administrator considers inappropriate to play in the garden

NOTICE: In Kid's Area, CHILDREN UNDER 13 YEARS OLD ONLY can use play equipment such as rubber balls for kids or jump ropes that may not cause harm to other visitors. Hard balls such as soccer balls, baseball equipment, skateboards, radio-controlled model cars are not permitted to use in all areas in the garden as they may cause troubles or injuries to others.

During cherry blossom season from March 25 to April 24, play equipment cannot be used in Kid's Area.

 

3. Damaging garden, facilities, animals, trees or plants for preservation of nature

and cultural properties:

  • Picking or damaging plants
  • Catching or hurting animals, birds, fish or insects
  • Fishing and swimming in the ponds
  • Climbing trees
  • Feeding animals
  • Entering restricted and protected areas
  • Bringing and planting plants or flowers
  • Bringing and releasing animals
  • Damaging or defacing facilities and equipment
  • Other acts that the administrator considers inappropriate
4. Improper acts for disturbing garden management or causing troubles

to other visitors:

  • Building a fire, or using instruments that cause fire such as portable stoves
  • Picking fallen leaves, branches, or flowers and taking them out of the garden
  • Playing musical instruments, or using audio equipment to make a loud noise, such as music players, loudspeakers, or whistles
  • Entry of cars and bicycles and parking in the garden(except maintenance vehicles with permission)
  • Collecting donations
  • Handing out flyers or leaflets
  • Smoking including electronic cigarettes out of the designated areas
  • Taking photographs which may disturb other visitors
  • Other acts that the administrator considers inappropriate
5. Any acts which may disturb scenery:
  • Throwing or leaving garbage anywhere other than trash boxes
  • Setting flags and putting posters
  • Bringing in and using outdoor equipment such as tents or parasols
  • Other acts that the administrator considers inappropriate
6. Commercial activities (except authorized activities)
  • Displaying and selling goods
  • Commercial photography and movie shooting
  • Competitions, exhibitions, or lectures or courses (photography, sketch, yoga, Tai Chi, walking or jogging) which require payment
  • Other commercial activities that are not permitted by the administrator
7. Other Important Notice

In case of illegal and violent acts, the disturbance to other visitors, or failure to cooperate with our garden's instructions, you may be asked to exit Shinjuku Gyoen.
