Important Reminder

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is managed for the enjoyment of the public, balancing the interests of our visitors, wildlife, the historic environment and conservation.

To ensure an enjoyable time for all visitors, we ask you to REFRAIN FROM THE FOLLOWINGS:

1. Bringing items listed below:

  • Alcohol
  • Animals (except guide dogs, hearing dogs, and service dogs)
  • Bicycles, striders, unicycles, or trolleys
  • Drones
  • Butterfly nets or insect cages
  • Cut flowers
  • Other items that the administrator considers inappropriate to bring in the garden

2. Any sports and activities which may disturb other visitors, such as:

  • Playing catch, soccer and other activities using balls
  • Running or jogging in groups
  • Playing badminton
  • Roller-skating, rollerblading, kick-boarding, or skateboarding
  • Playing with radio-controlled helicopters, radio-controlled cars, or similar products
  • Playing frisbee or boomerang
  • Rope-jumping or kite-flying
  • Other activities that the administrator considers inappropriate to play in the garden

NOTICE: In Kid's Area, CHILDREN UNDER 13 YEARS OLD ONLY can use play equipment such as rubber balls for kids or jump ropes that may not cause harm to other visitors. Hard balls such as soccer balls, baseball equipment, skateboards, radio-controlled model cars are not permitted to use in all areas in the garden as they may cause troubles or injuries to others.

During cherry blossom season from March 25 to April 24, play equipment cannot be used in Kid's Area.

 

3. Damaging garden, facilities, animals, trees or plants for preservation of nature and cultural properties:

  • Picking or damaging plants
  • Catching or hurting animals, birds, fish or insects
  • Fishing and swimming in the ponds
  • Climbing trees
  • Feeding animals
  • Entering restricted and protected areas
  • Bringing and planting plants or flowers
  • Bringing and releasing animals
  • Damaging or defacing facilities and equipment
  • Other acts that the administrator considers inappropriate

4. Improper acts for disturbing garden management or causing troubles to other visitors:

  • Building a fire, or using instruments that cause fire such as portable stoves
  • Picking fallen leaves, branches, or flowers and taking them out of the garden
  • Playing musical instruments, or using audio equipment to make a loud noise, such as music players, loudspeakers, or whistles
  • Entry of cars and bicycles and parking in the garden(except maintenance vehicles with permission)
  • Collecting donations
  • Handing out flyers or leaflets
  • Smoking including electronic cigarettes out of the designated areas
  • No excessive skin exposure (including barechestedness)
  • Taking photographs which may disturb other visitors
  • Other acts that the administrator considers inappropriate

5. Any acts which may disturb scenery:

  • Throwing or leaving garbage anywhere other than trash boxes
  • Setting flags and putting posters
  • Bringing in and using outdoor equipment such as tents or parasols
  • Other acts that the administrator considers inappropriate

6. Commercial activities (except authorized activities)

  • Displaying and selling goods
  • Commercial photography and movie shooting
  • Competitions, exhibitions, or lectures or courses (photography, sketch, yoga, Tai Chi, walking or jogging) which require payment
  • Other commercial activities that are not permitted by the administrator

7. Other Important Notice

  • In case of illegal and violent acts, the disturbance to other visitors, or failure to cooperate with our garden's instructions, you may be asked to exit Shinjuku Gyoen.

 

We appreciate your cooperation in making use of the garden in a respectful manner and hope you have good time.

Running in the Garden

Running is only allowed on the designated loop in red (see the map below). Groups of 10 or more are not allowed to run together. Please note that running is NOT allowed in the garden during the Spring Special Opening Period from March 25 to April 24 and the cherry blossom season, which partially overlaps with the above-mentioned period.
