Preserving the Jomon-sugi Cedar for future generations

Numerous trekkers visit the Jomon-sugi Cedar each year. Observe the appropriate rules and etiquette to preserve the majestic forest landscape of the giant Yakusugi trees that are over 1000 years old.

Avoid trekking on busy days for a more leisurely experience, and to better protect the World Heritage site.

Be careful of the animals and vegetation.

  • Help protect the natural environment, including the Jomon-sugi Cedar.

  • Help protect the Wilson-kabu Stump.

Do not contaminate or damage the habitat.

Notes on use

  • The use of ordinary vehicles up to the Arakawa Trail entrance is restricted.

    To reduce environmental impact and congestion due to excessive vehicle use in mountain areas, entry of ordinary vehicles to the Arakawa Trail (the start of the trek to the Jomon-sugi Cedar) is restricted during all day hours throughout the following period. Visitors heading to the Arakawa Trail Entrance during this period are requested to take the Arakawa hiking bus from in front of the Yakusugi Museum.
    Even when driving in the area outside the restricted period, ensure that you do not park in a prohibited area as it will interfere with the passage of large trucks.

    Restricted period: March 1 - November 30
