World Natural Heritage Yakushima Mountain Environment Conservation Donation

Donations are requested to help preserve the mountain environment.

The donation program provides trekkers with a safe and secure natural experience of the beautiful natural environment and clean waters of Yakushima Island. The Island is evaluated highly as a World Natural Heritage site, and as such is an asset shared by all.

Day trips in the mountains
Basic fee 1,000 yen
Overnight stays in the mountains
Overnight stay 2,000 yen
  • Donations are requested from junior high school students and older. Elementary school students and younger are exempt.
  • Visitors not trekking are also able to make donations at the Tourist Information Center or other locations.

What Is the World Natural Heritage Yakushima Mountain Environment Conservation Donation?

In March 2017, a program of donations for trekking, referred to as the World Natural Heritage Yakushima Mountain Environment Conservation Donation, was established. Persons making day trips are requested to donate 1,000 yen, and 2000 yen if planning to spend a night in the mountains. The donation program provides trekkers with a safe and secure natural experience through work such as maintenance of mountain toilets and inspection and repair of mountain trails, and to preserve the beautiful natural environment of Yakushima Island.

How to Pay

Donations should be made before commencing the trek, and a donor certificate obtained.
Make your donation when purchasing the shuttle bus ticket if starting from the Arakawa Trail entrance.
