Yakusugi Museum

Featuring the "branch of life" fallen from the Jomon-sugi cedar and a display of a real, large-size chainsaw used for logging yakusugi (Japanese cedars), this museum in Yakushima Town introduces the relationship between people and yakusugi along with the history of forestry on Yakushima Island. In addition, every year it holds a special exhibit that introduces the attractions of Yakushima Island and Kuchinoerabu-jima Island.

Yakushima Environmental and Cultural Village Center.

The center is operated by the Yakushima Environmental and Cultural Foundation as a site to promote the "Yakushima Environmental and Cultural Village Concept". Through permanent displays using large-screen video, panels, models and more, the center provides easy-to-understand information about the nature, lifestyle and culture of Yakushima Island, and allows visitors to learn everything there is to know about Yakushima Island.

Yakushima Umigame-Kan

Operated by the Nonprofit Organization Yakushima Umigame-kan, this facility provides detailed information on the ecosystem of the sea turtle and the initiatives to protect it. It also conducts ecosystem surveys at night during the periods of egg laying and hatching.
