Unzen Area

Cleaning Activity in the Nita Pass (Park Volunteers)
For everyone's safety, the Ministry of the Environment has been engaged in the checkup and repair of mountain trails and paths. In addition, by working cooperatively with a community-based group, the Unzen Beautification Group, and park volunteers who are registered with the Ministry of the Environment, various efforts have been made to conserve the area, from cleaning/beautification activities around major destinations and roadside areas in the national park, nature observation events to the extermination of invasive species.
Amakusa Area

Conservation and Restoration of Pine Trees
Matsushima (pine island), situated at the area's gateway, is honored as Japan's three great Matsushima Islands for its splendid beauty created by numerous islands and islets floating in the inland sea and pine wood nematodes. However, as the natural environment is declining due to pine wood nematodes, various efforts have been taken to remove diseased trees and promote the planting of pine trees that are resistant to the pine wood nematodes.
