Kitanomaru Garden is an important woodland garden situated in the center of Tokyo. This garden which continues on into the northern part of the Imperial Palace is planted with many broadleafed evergreen trees.
Japanese chinquapin(Castanopsis cuspidata), Machilus(Machilus Thunbergii) and the Camphor tree(Cinnamomum camphora), are such examples that be seen in this garden. In the center of this garden there is a large pond and well kept lawns, which are surrounded by many beautiful deciduous trees such as Japanese Maple(Acer palmatum), Keyaki(Zelkova serrata), and Oak(Quercus serrata). This garden is a wild bird sanctuary and many berrying trees and shrubs have been planted to encourage wild birds to nest. The deciduous trees are always very attractive in autumn. There is also a "Green Adventure Course" in this garden.
