Signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman on Environmental Cooperation
On May 13, 2025, in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, MATSUZAWA Yutaka, Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on Environmental Cooperation between the two countries to advance cooperation in climate change, waste management and other environmental areas.

On May 13, 2025, in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, MATSUZAWA Yutaka, Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on Environmental Cooperation to advance cooperation in climate change, waste management and other environmental areas between the two countries.
The Sultanate of Oman and Japan have been increasing exchanges on various occasions including the visit of officials from the Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman to Japan last year for learning carbon crediting and waste management. During the bilateral meeting prior to the signing ceremony, they reaffirmed cooperation in response to crises the world is facing such as climate change and close collaboration towards the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), in which H.E. Dr. Al Amri will serve as the President.
In light of the MOC, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan intends to advance cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman on climate change, waste management and other environmental areas with Japan’s experiences of overcoming environmental pollution and decarbonization technologies.
