Results of the High-Level 16th Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) Forum in Asia
1.In order to realize Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) in Asia, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan, held the High-Level 16th Regional EST Forum in Asia in Manila, Republic of the Philippines, co-organized with the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) and other organizations, from December 10 to 12, 2024.
2.The Forum shared policies in each country and exchanged a wide spectrum of opinions on EST, as well as following up on the progress made in each country towards the accomplishment of goals set forth in the Aichi 2030 Declaration* adopted in the 14th Forum.
* The Aichi 2030 Declaration upholds EST goals to be achieved by 2030, in line with international trends, including the SDGs and the Paris Agreement, in order to accelerate the movement towards the decarbonization, etc. of Asia

* Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Iran, Japan, Laos, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines

■ Main results
(1) Presentations on best practices, etc. were made by Asian countries and international organizations in each session. Japan introduced policies related to EST in Japan (air pollution control in the transport sector), and regional EST cases in Japan (initiative in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture), etc.
(2) Among the goals in the Aichi 2030 Declaration, progress on the policies of each country, etc. was followed up on for Goal 1c: Air pollution, Goal 3: Economic sustainability, and Goal 5: Urban access.
