CCS International Symposium -Towards Further Promotion of Social Implementation- (March 25 and 26, 2025)
1.Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan is holding the ‘CCS International Symposium -Towards Further Promotion of Social Implementation-’ with the aim of promoting the further introduction of CCS in Japan, based on the latest trends, coordination with local entities, and CO2 monitoring efforts in international CCS projects.
2.In this symposium, CCS related technologies, demonstration projects and efforts are introduced by speakers from industrial, energy resource-related companies and academics in Europe, North and South America, Asia/Oceania, etc. Japanese domestic efforts on CCS by the national governments, local governments, private companies, etc., are also introduced.
■ Details
◆ To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, it will be essential to mobilize all measures and policies that contribute to decarbonization.
◆ CCS (Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage) is a technology that separates and captures emitted CO2 and stores it underground or under the seabed, and is attracting attention as a technology that can significantly reduce CO2 emissions from power plants and areas that are difficult to decarbonize even with thorough energy conservation and maximum introduction of renewable energy sources.
◆ On the other hand, to introduce CCS, the selection of suitable areas for CO2 sequestration, the establishment of cooperative relationships with local entities, and the continuous monitoring of environmental impacts and CO2 sequestration status are required.
◆ Based on these backgrounds, with the aim of promoting the further introduction of CCS in Japan, the “International Symposium on CCS -Towards Further Promotion of Social Implementation -” will be held.
