MOE Japan participated in the Sixth Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
1. On May 27-28, 2025, the "Six Global Conference for Strengtheing Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda fro Sustainable
Development" was co-convened by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat in Copenhagen, Denmark.
2. The conference was held under the theme "Unleashing Synergies Towards an Equitble, Climate-Resilient, and Sustainable Future". Key messages
were pesented by co-conveners during the Cloasing Session.
3. During the High-Level Segment, ASAO Keiichiro, Minister of the Environment, Japan, delivered a speech via video message. He underscored the
importance of promoting synergies towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets to tackle climate change,
introduced Japan's initiatives to expand synergies globally such as the "Asia-Pacific Synergy Report", and called for promotion of action towards
social transformation.

The Conference has been held since 2019 to promote integrated approaches for achieving both the Paris Agreement and the SDGs. In the Sixth Conference, discussions were made under the theme "Unleashing Synergies Towards an Equitable, Climate-Resilient, and Sustainable Future".
In the High-Level Segment, via video messsage, Asao Keiichiro, Minister of the Environment, Japan, underscored the importance of promoting synergies towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets to tackle climate change, introduced Japan's initiatives to expand synergies globally such as the "Asia-Pacific Synergy Report", and called for promotion of action towards social transformation.
From Japan, HAMA Ichiro, Assistant Director, International Strategy Division, Global Environment Bureau, Ministry of the Environment, Japan, Ms. AMANUMA Nobue, Fellow, Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES), and Mr. Tarek KATRAMIZ, Professor of Sustainability Governance, College of Systems Engineering and Science, Shibaura Institute of Technology, spoke in thematic sessions on-site.
HAMA Ichiro introduced cases of Nature-based Solutions in Japan, such as the "SATOYAMA Initiative" and highlighted the importance of local approaches. Ms. AMANUMA Nobue discussed integrated approaches to climate action and sustainable development by coastal cities and regions. Professor Tarek KATRAMIZ discussed the role of energy-related projects in promoting synergies, highlighting Japan's experiences in regional decarbonization and local revitalization.
