Publication of a report on Interlaboratory Comparison conducted by IAEA

1. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has organized Interlaboratory Comparisons (ILCs) to assist the Government of Japan (GOJ) in ensuring that the results of Sea Area Monitoring in Japan are credible and transparent.
The GOJ would like to announce that the IAEA released a report summarizing the results of ILC in 2025.

2. In the report, the IAEA concluded that Japan's sample collection procedures continue to follow the appropriate standards required to obtain representative samples and that the accurate results obtained in ILC 2025 and in the previous IAEA ILCs demonstrate a high degree of proficiency on the part of the Japanese laboratories and confidence in the routine monitoring results.

■Outline of ILC

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan, conducts Sea Area Monitoring based on the Comprehensive Radiation Monitoring Plan. At the request of the GOJ, the IAEA has organized ILCs since 2014 to assist the GOJ in ensuring that the results of Sea Area Monitoring in Japan are credible and transparent.
In addition to experts from the IAEA, experts from laboratories in France, the Republic of Korea and Switzerland visited Japan in September 2025 and jointly collected samples.
