Signing of Letter of Intent between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federative Republic of Brazil

1.  On November 21, 2025, ISHIHARA Hirotaka, Minister of the Environment of Japan, signed a Letter of Intent  (LOI) between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change  of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Belém, Brazil, and H.E. Ms. Marina Silva, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federative Republic of Brazil, subsequently signed the LOI. 

2.  The LOI expresses the intention of the two countries to enhance cooperation on the recovery of degraded pastureland and farmland in Brazil, building upon the frameworks of:　
　
 (i) the Memorandum of Cooperation on Environment between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Federative Republic of Brazil, signed on March 25, 2025; and
 
(ii) the Letter of Intent signed on March 26, 2025, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

3.  Through this LOI, the two countries will further enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of environment.
