Result of First Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Japan and Sri Lanka

1. On October 13, 2023, the First Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Japan was held in a hybrid format, in person in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and online.

2. After the adoption of the Rules of Procedures for the Joint Committee (JC), Co-Chairs were appointed. Then, the JC adopted the rules and guidelines for implementing the JCM consistent with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

3. The JC considered the Project Idea Note (PIN) of a planned JCM project. Upon completion of the review of the PIN on October 27, the JC decided that it has no objection to the planned project.

4. Furthermore, the JC exchanged views on the Japan’s support for the JCM partner countries. Japan will promote JCM projects in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka based on the adopted rules, thereby reducing GHG emissions, notably through leading decarbonization technologies, and contributing to both countries' NDCs (nationally determined contributions).
