Confirmation of Agreement between CO2 Emissions Estimation by GOSAT Series Observation and the Values Report by the Mongolian Government

Simultaneous announcement by Chuo University, Information and Research Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment, Mongolia, and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Mongolia>

  1. With support by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) Japan, a research team consisting of members from Chuo University, the Mongolian Meteorological and Hydrological Research Institute, and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia has confirmed that CO2 emissions estimated using observation data from the Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite, "GOSAT" (nicknamed "IBUKI"), are highly accurate and consistent with the reported values in Mongolia’s second biennial update report (BUR2*) submitted to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change on November 15, 2023. *Government of Mongolia reported that the GOSAT estimation showed an excellent agreement with its BUR2.
  2. This achievement is the first case in the world in which CO2 emissions estimated using satellite observation data are published in a national report on GHG emissions to UNFCCC.
