Outcome of the Malaysia–Japan Environment Week

1.  From October 15 to 17, 2025, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) of Malasia co-organized the Malaysia–Japan Environment Week, in which a series of events were integrally held including thematic seminars, business pitch sessions, and booth exhibitions, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

2.  KOBAYASHI Fumiaki, State Minister of the Environment of Japan, YBhg. Datuk Dr. Ching Thoo a/l Kim, Secretary General, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability of Malaysia, YBhg. Dato' Seri Maimunah binti Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur City, and approximately 650 people participated in person and approximately 230 people online, and discussed towards creation of environmental business opportunities between the two countries.

3.  On this occasion, KOBAYASHI Fumiaki, State Minister of the Environment of Japan, also participated in the 3rd Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Ministerial Meeting.

(5)  Outline of the Environment Week
       From October 15 to 17, 2025, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) of Malasia co-organized the Malaysia–Japan Environment Week, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, aiming to enhance cooperation between the two countries, and efficiently and effectively create business opportunities in the environmental field, in which approximately 650 people participated in person and approximately 230 people online.

(6) Results of each session
       In the High-Level Session, beginning with Opening Remarks by YBhg. Datuk Dr. Ching Thoo a/l Kim, Secretary General, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability of Malaysia, and KOBAYASHI Fumiaki, State Minister of the Environment of Japan, Welcome Remarks by YBhg. Dato' Seri Maimunah binti Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur City, H.E. Mr. SHIKATA Noriyuki, Ambassador-designate of Japan to Malaysia, Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, and YBhg. Dato’ Goh Boon Kim, Vice President, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) were delivered. They attracted great expectations for cooperation and development through business in the environmental field of both countries.

       In the Plenary Session, under the theme of “Toward the regenerative city: restore, renew, enhance - Fukushima harnessing its potential; from Environmental Remediation to Net Zero society -”, Video Message by Mr. UCHIBORI Masao, Governor of Fukushima Prefecture, and Keynote Speeches by three university students from Fukushima Prefecture who are Fukushima Carbon Neutral International Student Ambassadors, were delivered and Panel Discussion by youth from both countries was conducted.

       Moreover, seminars and business pitch sessions focused on specific subjects, including CEFIA (joint session with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan), resource circulation, water and waste management, PaSTI, and recycled materials (joint session with the Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN (CEFIA)), were integrally held. Participants from public and private sectors of both countries deepened discussions on specific technologies for solving issues, roles and cooperation of both countries.

       Within the venue, 18 Japanese companies and organizations held exhibitions, and explained their technologies to visitors towards creating business opportunities in the environmental field.
