Enhancing international cooperation on measures against invasive alien species 2024

The following are the events and meetings held in 2024 in order to strengthen international cooperation on measures against Invasive Alien Species (IAS).

The 2nd Tripartite Invasive Alien Species Expert Meeting (held in Yokohama, Japan on July. 23rd, 2024)

Due to the increasing threat posed by IAS in East Asia, the expert meeting was held for the first time in six years. The government officals and experts from Japan, China and the Republic of Korea discussed and exchanged information on countermeasures against IAS such as the Red Imported Fire Ant from a scientific perspective.

Side event at CBD-COP16 (held in Cali, Colombia on Oct. 29th, 2024)

Whole-of-society approach to achieve GBF Target6 regarding IPBES assessment reports, G7 statement on IAS and NBSAPs

At CBD-COP16, Japan hosted a side event on IAS with speakers from IUCN, a Keidanren member company and several countries. Participants reconfirmed the importance of a whole-of-society approach to IAS management including collaboration among countries and across various sectors.

G7 Workshop on IAS (held online on Nov. 26th)

Italy hosted the G7 Workshop on IAS as the G7 presidency in 2024. G7 countries and relevant international organizations shared recent information and efforts on IAS and discussed the issues that G7 countries should prioritize in the coming years.
