Enhancing international cooperation on measures against invasive alien species 2024
Japan hosted 3 events and conferences as the G7 presidency to promote international cooperation on invasive alien species (IAS) measures: International Webinar, Side Event at CBD-SBSTTA25 and G7 Workshop. After the Workshop, “G7 statement on invasive alien species” was compiled as an outcome document.
In the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD-COP16) held in 2024 with the theme of implementing the Kunming Montreal Biodiversity Framework. Japan had various side events and an exhibition booth and presented our efforts including measures against IAS.
The following are the events and meetings held in order to strengthen international cooperation on measures against IAS.

Side event at CBD-COP16 (held in Cali, Colombia on Oct. 29th, 2024)
Whole-of-society approach to achieve GBF Target6 regarding IPBES assessment reports, G7 statement on IAS and NBSAPs
At CBD-COP16, Japan hosted a side event on IAS with speakers from IUCN, Keidanren and several countries. Participants reconfirmed the essential roles of collaboration among countries and various sectors, towards IAS measures.



G7 Workshop on IAS (held online on Nov. 26th)
Japan participated in G7 workshop on IAS hosted by Italy. G7 countries and relevant international organizations shared recent information and efforts on IAS and discussed prioritized topics on which G7 countries could focus on in the future.
