These waters are located in and around the trench northwest of Tsushima Islands. Topographically, trenches and currents that appear to be localized upwelling currents have been observed in these waters (Kiyono, personal communication; Miyazato et al, 2012; 2013 Tsushima Marine Preservation District Scientific Committee Report).
