These are the waters in the vicinity of the city of Kunisaki and Himeshima Island in Oita Prefecture. Eel grass beds and seaweed beds unfold in the vicinity of Himeshima Island. The sea extending in front of Kunisaki and Himeshima Island is rich in biodiversity, with a mixture of Sargassum macrocarpum, Sargassum fulvellum, Sargassum micracanthum, eel grass, sargassum, Ecklonia cava and Ecklonia kurome beds, and others (Ministry of the Environment, 2001).
