These waters include those from Cape Sekizaki on the Saganoseki Peninsula to Tsutashima and Kuroshima Islands in the south. Kurogahama on Cape Sekizaki is a pebble beach formed of serpentine, home to distinctive coastal fauna such as Hemerocallis fulva and others, along with numerous Luciogobius grandis Arai, Luciogobius elongatus and other flat-headed goby. Another distinguishing feature of these waters is the formation of Ecklonia kurome seaweed beds in the sea. Sashiu in Usuki is the only Luciogobius dormitoris habitat in Japan. Luciogobius palliduse also are gathered at the small river mouth (Shiogaki and Dotsu, 1976; Oita Prefecture, 2011).
