Characteristics A separate window opensReferences

These waters are located off the north side of Osaki-Kamijima Island and off the coast of the city of Takehara. These waters include Seto Inland Sea's largest eel grass beds by area, with expansive eel grass beds having formed on both the mainland side and the island side. The diversity of this landscape has resulted in a high degree of biodiversity in the seaweed beds themselves and a highly functional ecosystem. In addition, they also contribute to the diversity of the eel grass beds from Geiyo Seto to Bisan Seto (Tohoku National Fisheries Research Institute, Fisheries Research Agency, 2008; Marine Ecology Research Institute and Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency, 2013; Shouji. 2011 ). Finless porpoise also can be seen in these waters.
