These waters include the mouth of the Ibi River, the Shinmaiko coast, the mouth of the Chikusa River, Kakui Island, and others. In the Maehama tidal mud flats on the Shinmaiko coast the bivalve razor clam, which has become few in number nationwide, and the crab Pseudopinnixa carinata are prolific. At the mouth of the Chikusa River unfold river-mouth tidal mud flats and saltwater marshlands, normally populated with razor clams, a rare parasitic bivalve called Peregrinamor ohshimai, Uca lactea lactea, Clistocoeloma sinensis, and Patinapta ooplax (Ministry of the Environment, 2001). Also living here are Assiminea yoshidayukioi, which is highly likely to be a species unique to Japan, and others (Japanese Association of Benthology, 2012).
