These are the waters in the vicinity of Cape Kamoda and Ishima Island. Seaweed beds unfold in Tachibana Bay, where relatives of Sargassum sp. (this type has disappeared from its habitat in Kashiwajima due to rocky-shore denudation, and taxonomic study of this species is required since its actual facts are unclear), along with Sargassum muticum (Yendo) Fensholt. Distinguishing features of these communities are their wide areas of distribution and their thickness. The Kamoda coast features sandy beaches and shallow waters, and it is an important loggerhead turtle spawning ground. Distributed off the coast of I Island are Sargassum confusum seaweed beds (the sole such community in the warm-water zone on the Pacific coast (Ministry of the Environment, 2001).
