These are the waters in the vicinity of Akinohama on the northern part of Oshima Island. Like those off the Jogasaki coast and Cape Ose, these waters have a remarkably high degree of diversity of coastal fish. Here live Maroubra yasudai, Pseudanthias leucozonus, and Pseudotrichonotus altivelis, rare species endemic to the areas of Suruga Bay and Sagami Bay (Seno et al., 1997; Senou et al., 2006; Seno and Matsuura, 2007; Takeuchi et al., 2012a ; Takeuchi et al., 2012b; Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History, eds., 2013).
