These are the waters in the vicinity of Mikura Island. These waters are home to a breeding colony of Japanese murrelet (an IUCN endangered species) (BirdLife International, 2012). In addition, the waters in the shore zone in the vicinity of Mikura Island are important green turtle feeding waters (Morisaka et al , 2011).
