These are the coastal waters of the sea extending in front of Nakaminato Port, including Oarai, Hiraiso, and Ajigaura. Phyllospadix japonicus grows at Oarai and Hiraiso. In addition, seaweed communities, mainly of kombu kelp and Sargassum fulvellum, extend in the waters of Oarai and Ajigaura (Ministry of the Environment, 2001).
