These waters extend from the coastal zone of Lake Kutcharo to the coast of the town of Esashi. It consists of the river mouth connecting Lake Kutcharo to the sea and the natural sandy shores and eel grass beds to the south. Lake Kutcharo's shore zone is a naturally dammed brackish lake with a highly biologically unique environment, and the coastal waters including the important mouth zone of this environment are a place of transit for migratory birds. In addition, Hucho perryi swim downstream to the sea in the rivers on the Sea of Okhotsk side of the Soya region.
