Results of the Nationwide Tidal Flat Ecosystem Survey

As part of the 6th and 7th National Survey on the Natural Environment (Green Census of Japan), the Biodiversity Center of Japan, one of the MOE's institutions for wildlife conservation, has conducted a nationwide survey on benthic fauna using a unified survey method for 157 major tidal flats in Japan since 2002. Recently, the Biodiversity Center of Japan compiled the results of the survey and published a final report. According to the results of this survey, 1,667 benthic species were found in total. The survey result also analyzes the distribution patterns of important species. The report is available for browsing and can be downloaded from the Japan Integrated Biodiversity Information System (J-IBIS).
