Results of "Fact-finding Survey on the Promotion of Reusing Waste Containers and Packaging"

The Ministry of the Environment announced the summary of the results of its "Fact-finding Survey on the Promotion of Reusing Waste Containers and Packaging." This survey was carried out in FY2006 for the purpose of identifying the actual situation of the sorted collection of returnable bottles by cities, towns and villages, and of the use of returnable containers in public accommodations.
The results showed that (1) about 44% of the cities, towns and villages carried out the sorted collection of returnable bottles, mainly 1.8 liter bottles and beer bottles, and (2) returnable containers were not used much in public accommodations, but were used temporarily in events in many cases.
