On National Plan for Adaptation to the Impacts of Climate Change

To develop an Adaptation Plan for the entire Government, the Central Environment Council, with the participation of experts from a variety of fields, conducted climate change impact assessments and offered an advice "On the Report regarding Assessments of Climate Change Impacts in Japan and Future Challenges" to the Ministry of the Environment in March 2015.

In line with the assessment results on climate change impacts in Japan, and to promote compatible measures in comprehensive and systematic ways for the entire Government vis-à-vis climate change impacts in various fields, the first Inter-Ministry Meeting for Adaptation to the Impacts of Climate Change (hereinafter referred to as the "Inter-Ministry Meeting") agreed to review and compile a draft "National Plan for Adaptation to the Impacts of Climate Change" on September 11 this year.

In response to it, the third Inter-Ministry Meeting compiled a draft "National Plan for Adaptation to the Impacts of Climate Change (to be decided by the Cabinet) "on November 25, 2015 and the Cabinet today decided the "National Plan for Adaptation to the Impacts of Climate Change".

Japan's measures regarding Adaptation, including an Outline of the National Adaptation Plan was submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
