An Aggregate of Fluorocarbons Destroyed in FY 2013
The Ministry of the Environment announced the amount of fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2013 based on reports submitted by fluorocarbon destruction operators as required under the Law concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons.
1. Total amount of fluorocarbons destroyed
Fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2013 totaled 4,470 metric tons (1), a 0.7% increase from the FY 2012 level. The breakdown of this figure by types of fluorocarbons is 181 tons of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), 2,349 tons of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and 1,940 tons of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) .
2. Amount of specified products collected
The breakdown of fluorocarbons collected by specified products is 3,681 tons of commercial refrigerators and air conditioners, a 0.6% increase from the FY 2012 level, and 803 tons of automotive air conditioners, a 1.2% decrease from the FY 2012 level.
Note: Since January 2005, recovery of fluorocarbons used as refrigerant in Vehicles air conditioners has been carried out in line with the Law for the Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles.
