Joint Japan-IRENA workshop: Accelerating renewable energy deployment in the Pacific region - Meeting the challenges -


In collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Government of Japan is organizing a workshop "Accelerating renewable energy deployment in the Pacific Island Countries - Meeting the challenges -" to discuss possible technological solutions for accelerating renewable energy deployment in the Pacific region, focusing on grid stability and the use of renewable energy in transportation. The workshop will take place in Okinawa, Japan on 26th May 2012, taking the opportunity of the 6th Pacific Leader's Meeting hosted by Japan. About 30 representatives and experts from the governments of Pacific island countries and territories, as well as regional organizations, development partners, and private sector will be invited to discuss the following topics.
1) Renewable energy deployment in the Pacific region: Current situation and efforts
2) Technological solutions for renewable energy deployment towards low carbon society in islands
2-1) Integration of high ratio of renewable energy into island grids
2-2) Use of renewable energy in the transportation sector
2-3) Opportunities for renewable energy implementation in the Pacific
