Results of the 4th Asia-Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network (AP-BON) Workshop and AP-BON Science Symposium

The Biodiversity Center of Japan, Nature Conservation Bureau, MOE of Japan, held the 4th Asia-Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network (AP-BON) Workshop and AP-BON Science Symposium from December 2 to 4, 2011 in Tokyo. There were 39 scientists from Japan and abroad who participated, including guest speakers from international organizations, such as the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Global Biodiversity Information Facility and ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, who shared global efforts for data sharing and biodiversity monitoring. The participants discussed on the role and future activities of biodiversity observation in the Asia-Pacific region, especially on the assessment of the achievement toward the "Aichi Biodiversity Targets" adopted at the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD/COP-10).
