Abstract
In recent years, there has been a growing trend in the establishment of carbon credit exchanges, accompanied by a corresponding rise in trading volumes. In Japan, the Tokyo Stock Exchange has established a carbon credit market in 2023. On the other hand, there are challenges to overcome in the carbon credit market, including ensuring the reliability of the calculation of absorption and emission reductions, and reducing verification costs. To address these challenges, remote sensing data, such as data from Earth observation satellites, is being increasingly utilized.
In this seminar, we will discuss how Earth observation satellite data is useful for ensuring the transparency and reliability of evidence required for carbon credit trading, which is becoming increasingly active around the world, as well as issues and future expectations for satellite data utilization, from the viewpoints of space agencies and private companies.Program
