 Kokyo Gaien Illumination

Nighttime illumination casts a subtle glow over select features of Kokyo Gaien National Garden—the heroic figure of samurai Kusunoki Masashige astride his horse, the graceful arches of Wadakurabashi Bridge, the stately lines of the Imperial Palace Sakuradamon Gate and the stone moat walls and ramparts.

All year round the lights go on 15 minutes after sunset and are turned off by 9 p.m. In spring and summer, they are a soft white color; in autumn and winter they are changed to a warmer, orange tone. The well-modulated lighting offers a restful contrast to the brightly lit skyscrapers of the surrounding area.
