Yakushima World Heritage Conservation Center

Created by the Ministry of the Environment after Yakushima Island was registered as a World Heritage site in December 1993, the Yakushima World Heritage Conservation Center opened in April 1996 and was later renovated in May 2014.

In addition to communicating the appeal of the Yakushima World Natural Heritage site and Yakushima National Park, the Center provides information on numerous topics, from the evolution of the natural world to environmental preservation efforts and etiquette and rules for trekking. The Center also functions as a base for research and study.

There is also an attached Yakushima Ranger Office, which serves as the Ministry of the Environment office responsible for preserving and managing the Yakushima National Park and the Yakushima World Natural Heritage site.
