Signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Malaysia on Cooperation in the Field of Environment and Sustainability

1. On Jun 9, 2026, ISHIHARA Hirotaka, Minister of the Environment of Japan, and Mohammad Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Government of Malaysia.
 
2. Based on the MOC, both ministries will advance comprehensive environmental cooperation between the two countries.

■ Background

  The Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability of Malaysia have been deepening their cooperation, including by holding the “Japan-Malaysia Environment Week” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2025 to discuss ways to create business opportunities in the environmental sector between the two countries.
  To further promote environmental cooperation between Japan and Malaysia, Environment Minister Ishihara took the opportunity of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar’s visit to Japan to sign the “Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Government of Malaysia on Cooperation in the Field of Environment and Sustainability” with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Mohammad Hasan.
  Going forward, based on this MOC, Japan and Malaysia will further advance comprehensive environmental cooperation in areas such as waste management and climate action.
