Signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Arrangement with the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Cooperation
1. On December 20, the Summit of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue (CA+JAD) was held in Tokyo, for the first time at the leader’s level.
2. On the occasion of the bilateral meetings with Presidents of participating countries in the summit, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Arrangement with the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Cooperation, respectively.
2. On the occasion of the bilateral meetings with Presidents of participating countries in the summit, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Arrangement with the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Cooperation, respectively.

On the occasion of the bilateral meetings with Presidents of participating countries in the summit, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Arrangement with the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Cooperation, respectively.
In line with the Memorandum of Cooperation and the Arrangement, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan will advance environmental cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

(1) Memorandum of Cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan on Environmental Cooperation

a. Climate change mitigation and development of adaptation and mitigation mechanisms
b. Air quality management
c. Sustainable management of waste and resources (including the transition to a circular economy), including toxic industrial waste
d. Conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and management of protected areas
(2) Arrangement on Environmental Cooperation including Waste Management with the Republic of Uzbekistan

c. Enhance the public-private collaboration for addressing environmental issues such as climate change, air pollution, water pollution and waste management
d. Strengthen capacity building for the development of high integrity carbon markets
