Results of the 16th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD-COP16), the 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP11), and the 5th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from Their Utilization (NP-MOP5)

<Summary>

The 16th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD-COP16), the 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP11), and the 5th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-Sharing (NP-MOP5), were held in Cali, Republic of Colombia, from October 21 to November 1, 2024.

   ・The 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP11)
   ・The 5th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-Sharing (NP-MOP5)
  Date: October 21 – November 1 (to early time on November 2), 2024
  Location: Cali, Republic of Colombia

<Results>

 Based on the decisions adopted at COP15 and COP-MOPs in Montreal, Canada in 2022, Parties and observers discussed and made decisions for further implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). The meetings were suspended in the early hours of November 2 before the remaining agenda items could be considered for adoption due to a loss of quorum. Please refer to the website of the Convention on Biological Diversity for the detailed results of the meetings.
 The meetings will be resumed from February 25 to 27, 2025 at the Headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy to consider the remaining items of the agenda for adoption.  
 The representatives of the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Fisheries Agency have participated as the Japanese Delegation. MATSUZAWA Yutaka, Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of the Environment, attended its high-level segment as the Head of the Delegation, and delivered a statement on behalf of the Government of Japan.
