National Report on the Implementation of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan, has submitted the "National Report on the Implementation of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands" to the Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat). This "National Report", a comprehensive national reporting document which encompasses the conservation status of Japan's wetlands, was compiled by the relevant ministries and agencies, pursuant to Recommendation 2.1 of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Wetlands.
 

■ Purpose of the National Report

In preparation for the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention (COP15) to be held in the Republic of Zimbabwe in July 2025, each Contracting Party is requested to submit to the Secretariat a National Report as an official government report, based on Recommendation 2.1.

■ Structure of the report

The National Report to be submitted to COP15 consists of the following four sections:
Section 1: Institutional information about the Administrative Authority and National Focal Points for the national implementation of the Convention
Section 2: A “free-text” section to provide a general summary of national implementation progress and challenges
Section 3: Indicator questions and additional information on the implementation grouped under each of the Convention’s current implementation Goals and Targets in the Strategic Plan 2016-2024
Section 4: Optional annex to allow any Contracting Party that has developed national targets to provide information on those

■ Use of National Reports

The reports submitted by each Contracting Party will be published on the Convention’s website, compiled and analyzed by the Secretariat, and the results will be reported at COP15.
