■ Overview

On October 14, 2026, the Global Environment Bureau of the Ministry of the Environment of Japan signed the Letter of Intent on cooperation in the development of Bangladesh’s Long-term Low-emission development strategy (LT-LEDS) with the Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The Letter of Intent provides for cooperation in analyzing future emissions scenarios for Bangladesh and developing its LT-LEDS using the Asia-Pacific Integrated Model (AIM), as well as capacity building for the use of AIM. It gives concrete effect to the Memorandum of Cooperation on environment signed between the two countries in February 2026 and will further advance bilateral cooperation on climate change mitigation.
Furthermore, through these efforts, project development under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh will be promoted, thereby contributing to global decarbonization.

■ About the Asia-Pacific Integrated Model (AIM)

AIM is a large-scale simulation model developed by the National Institute for Environmental Studies and other institutions to project greenhouse gas emissions and assess mitigation measures and impacts. It has also been used to develop nationally determined contributions (NDCs) in countries such as Indonesia and Thailand.
