Result of First Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Japan and Senegal

1. On May 23, 2024, the first meeting of the Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between the Republic of Senegal and Japan was held in a hybrid format, in person in the Republic of Senegal and online.

2. After the adoption of the Rules of Procedures for the Joint Committee, Co-Chairs were appointed. Then, the Joint Committee adopted the rules and guidelines for implementing the JCM consistent with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

3. The Joint Committee considered the Project Idea Note (PIN) of a planned project invested and implemented by a private company without any governmental financial support and decided that it has no objection to the planned project.

4. Furthermore, the Japanese side explained the financing programmes for the JCM, and the Joint Committee exchanged views on the JCM implementation. Japan will promote JCM projects in the Republic of Senegal based on the adopted rules, thereby reducing GHG emissions, notably through leading decarbonization technologies, and contributing to both countries' NDCs (nationally determined contributions).
